International Social Services: Rebrand
The International Social Service (ISS) helps individuals, children and families confronted with social problems involving two, or more, countries as a consequence of international migration or displacement.
Brochure Design
Targeted to other advocacy-related and philanthropic nonprofit organizations, individual donors, legislators and the media, our objective was to develop a report design and template that would raise the awareness of their mission and have people identify with the plight suffered by Guatemalan children.
Having a small budget and snapshots instead of high-quality photography, we certainly had a challenge ahead of us. In addition, we had to bring life to a dense 32-page text document.
To provide the illusion of multiple colors, we mixed inks to produce a false-black for the photos and allowed the graininess of the photos to dominate in an effort to lend credibility to the real life experiences faced in Guatemala. We focused primarily on the eyes of the children and honed in on the happier faces so as not to overwhelm the reader with depressing images.
The final solution resulted in a successful effort to call attention to the deplorable housing conditions these people live in every day while offering a promise of hope through the eyes of these Guatemalan children. We opted for a two color solution on an smooth, economical stock to enable the client to increase their quantity yet keep the quality of the report at a higher level.
