Two Partners, Two Days, 140 Miles. One Great Experience.

As a first year rider, I wasn't sure what to expect and was admittedly extremely nervous up until the first pit stop 10 miles in. After getting my sea legs and encouragement from more seasoned riders (including Carl), I was well on my way to the completion of day one. Granted, when we hit the 80 mile mark, both of us were wishing we had a little more padding in our seat! The last leg was definitely tough. We braved the mighty winds coming off the Eastern Shore, dodged unfortunate critters that didn't "make it to the other side," and the occasional pot hole that snuck up on us. However as we got closer to our destination and heard the hoopla for incoming riders, a smile came across our face and we muscled our way into the completion of 102 miles and day one. 

Sunday morning came early but with less than 40 miles ahead of us and plenty of carbs to keep us energized, we ventured through parts of Anne Arundel County and ultimately Baltimore City that this girl and guy have never seen before. Amazing the perspective a bicycle provides that a car can never shed! By the way...for any State Highway folks reading this, Hollins Ferry Road sure could use repaving!!

After a quick pit stop at AVAM for photos and t-shirts, we regrouped and made our collective way to our anxiously awaiting friends and family over at Moveable Feast's headquarters. Homemade signs, clapping and waving and even some tears led us into our final pit stop where our cyclometers read 140 miles!

It was a great experience and we're very proud of our accomplishments both on our bikes and in our fundraising efforts. At the closing ceremony, we were able to hear directly from people who have survived thanks to the food supplied by Moveable Feast. It definitely put our two days of sunburn and sore muscles into perspective and motivates us to participate again next year. We hope you'll come along for the ride!
