Incite Creative: Wear Blue is the New Black
April is Autism Awareness month, and for those of you who are unaware, the
CDC reports that 1 in 110 children have an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). With statistics like these, chances are you or someone you know has a family member or friend affected by autism. I do.
April 1-2, companies and individuals nationwide will be
"Lighting it Up Blue" to bring awareness to the growing autism epidemic. In an effort to show our support and advocate for those organizations with whom we fight to find answers, provide education, therapy, and suitable insurance coverage, we at Incite Creative ask our clients and colleagues to take note of upcoming local events, and considering sponsoring, attending and/or promoting the following:
Autism Society of America, Baltimore/Chesapeake Chapter, "Honestly Autism Day"
April 2, 2011; New Town High School, Owings Mills In conjunction with Baltimore County Public Schools, this event includes a panel of teens with ASD who will share their personal stories and give honest insight into their lives, as well as a keynote address sharing fun and functional strategies to help kids with sensory processing disorder.
ASA will offer breakout sessions and an exhibitor showcase for vendors.
The Coordinating Center: (Autism Society & AMC Theatres presents) "Wretches & Jabberers"
April 2; Georgetown AMC;
April 23; Columbia AMC; April 23; Gaithersburg AMC The Coordinating Center facilitates care coordination in the community and functions in both privately and publicly funded arenas. Its services are delivered through The Autism Waiver program, which provides necessary community services to children with sever autism at risk for institutionalization. An issue relevant to their consumers, they are promoting a new film,
"Wretches & Jabberers" which is a ground-breaking documentary about two men with autism who embark on a global quest to change attitudes about disability, intelligence and communication.
Children's Guild "Cabaret for Kids"
May 7, 2011; Hyatt Regency, BaltimoreThis annual event features an original musical performed by Guild students and highlights this year's honoree and Sadie Award winner, Frank X. and Janet Kelly, recognizing their philanthropic efforts to the local community. Proceeds from this black tie event benefit The Autism Center at
The Children's Guild.
The Shafer Center for Early Intervention "Best Buds Summer Day Camp"
June 27-July 29, 2011; Baltimore Summer break is the perfect time for children on the autism spectrum to maintain their positive momentum from the previous school year and be ready and engaged come September. The
Shafer Center's Best Buds Summer Day Camp will strengthen all areas of learning and build children's confidence while engaging them in educational and fun activities.
